Dear Friends,

FamilyWorks has been on a journey for over a year, seeking input from the community we hold dear. We have paid close attention to the concerning ways families in our community continue to face unprecedented levels of food insecurity, economic hardship, and emotional distress.

At this point in our journey, we are reaching more families and neighbors with our mission than we ever have before. This has been a period fueled by creativity and stronger partnerships, putting families who have been marginalized by food, economic, and racial injustice at the very center of our work.

As our community’s needs have grown over the past few years, so too have our services and programs. One of the biggest obstacles facing our organization has been the limited space at our Wallingford site. As we’ve expanded our impact, it’s been a challenge to make room for our partnerships and joint programming, accommodate our growing staff, and remain accessible to families with such a small footprint.

Our next step on this journey will be to build and open a brand-new Family Resource Center (FRC) at Cedar Crossing, one of the largest affordable housing communities in North Seattle. This new community has more than 250 apartment homes, many of which are 2 and 3 bedrooms, and has brought families who have faced limited affordable housing options to this vital community in the Roosevelt neighborhood.

Our new center will have a beautiful playroom, a classroom for multilingual parenting classes and caregiver support groups, and places for expecting and new parents to meet privately with public health partners for nutrition counseling and support.

Below, you’ll find a timeline for our upcoming move and grand opening. We’re excited to incorporate this new space into the FamilyWorks community, and we want you to help us make it feel like home!

From helping us pack to planning the 2023 Back-to-School celebration, there will be plenty of opportunities to harness your positive energy for our community and support our Family Resource Center’s relocation. Reach out to us at theteam@familyworksseattle.org and let us know you’d like to get involved.

Last, but not least, we want to reiterate that Wallingford and Fremont will always be our home. Our Wallingford Food Bank will remain in the current location on N 45th St that we’ve called home for over two decades! The relocation of our Family Resource Center is just the first in a number of steps to reach families where they live, learn, and grow, and we can’t wait to share some exciting news about our Food Access programs in the future!

With joy and gratitude,

Marcia Wright-Soika
Executive Director
