Our Food Programs

FamilyWorks staff pose in front of the Mobile Food Pantry.

Mobile Food Pantry

To increase access to our services outside of our normal distribution hours, we created a FamilyWorks food truck. Our Mobile Food Pantry regularly visits 4 locations in North Seattle, bringing nutritious food and vital resources directly to these communities.

If you have a one-time community event or on-going location where you’d like the Mobile Food Pantry to make a stop, contact Food Bank Manager Tobey Solomon-Auger at tobeys@familyworksseattle.org.

Emergency "No-Cook" Food Bags

In addition to the wide variety of fresh produce and groceries available during food bank hours, we also offer Emergency “No-Cook” Food Bags. Filled with snacks and meals that require no more than a can opener and hot water, “No-Cook” Bags are great for folks without access to traditional cooking facilities.

“No-Cook” Bags can be picked up once a week (in addition to a food bank visit) during food bank hours or anytime a security guard is present to distribute them.

Text-to-Go Grocery Boxes

For people who are unable to visit our food banks during normal hours of operation, we also offer Text-to-Go grocery boxes! Folks can sign up, view the items included in each week’s box, and customize with requests and substitutions, all via text message. Then schedule a pick-up time and swing by the food bank to grab your groceries.

To register for Text-to-Go today, text ‘FOOD’ to (205) 859-4364.

Grocery Delivery Program

The Grocery Delivery Program is an important part of our food bank work, as many individuals and families are not physically able to make it to our Wallingford location. In 2020, we made 5,487 deliveries to home-bound seniors and families.

Please call the Wallingford Food Bank at (206) 694-6722 to see if you are eligible for the grocery delivery program.

Weekend PowerPack Program

More than one third of Seattle Public Schools students qualify for free and reduced price lunches at school, but what about the weekends?

Each week when school is in session, we prepare kid-friendly “PowerPacks” filled with food for students at BF Day, Daniel Bagley, and Licton Springs Elementary Schools to take home over the weekend.

That way, they can spend less time worrying about what they’re going to eat and more time being kids!

Our Family Programs

Virtual & Outdoor Playgroups

Children from birth to 5 years old and their caregiver are welcome to attend our virtual and outdoor playgroups, where we come together to play, sing, read, eat snacks and build community! Playgroups are led by a FamilyWorks staff member or volunteer.

We have English, Spanish (Kaleidoscope Play and Learn group) and Japanese playgroups that are welcome to everyone. Participating in all playgroups is completely free!

By participating in playgroups, children learn social and developmental skills, caregivers and parents gain knowledge in child development and fun, age-appropriate activities, and we all get an opportunity to meet new people and build a supportive community network.

Virtual Parenting Classes & Workshops

We offer free parenting classes each year along with a variety of workshops related to child growth and development. The parenting classes and workshops are free to participants (except for a small fee if a parenting book is required, with scholarships available for those unable to pay for the book), and will take place virtually via video chat.

These classes require that all participants register before attending by calling our office (206) 694-6727.

Community & Empowerment Programs

Skill-Building, Field Trips, & Participant-Led Programs

Through partnerships with organizations throughout Seattle, we provide opportunities for families and individuals to build resiliency. Whether it be participant-led cooking classes, Up-Close encounters with Woodland Park Zoo animals, or a trip to the museum, these programs contribute to a strong, caring community.

For the time being, all Community & Empowerment Programs will take place outdoors in socially distanced environments.

Drop by the Resource Center or call us at (206) 694-6727 to find out what programs we’re offering now.

Community Closet & Kids' Essentials

At FamilyWorks, we hope to provide items and experiences that we believe are essential to being a kid. Anyone can make an appointment to “shop” for free children’s clothes and toys from our Community Closet. Another essential part of being a kid is learning and having fun with your family, which is why we also distribute activity packets with educational crafts, lessons, and self-care tips for caregivers.

We also distribute diapers, baby wipes, and personal hygiene supplies during our food bank hours.
