Food rescue volunteer, driving role
We are looking for a food rescue volunteer driver on Tuesday mornings. Our volunteer drivers go out in the FamilyWorks van and help rescue food from our supermarket partners. This role is an essential part of our food bank operations, for bringing in food and for building relationships with local businesses. Accompanying you will be one of our experienced food rescue volunteers and full training will be provided. This is a weekly shift.
Volunteers must be over 18 years old, be able to lift 40 lbs, have a safe driving record and not afraid of mornings or rain! You must be happy to provide a copy of your ID and your driving record.
Availability: Tuesdays 8-11 am
Food Bank Intake Volunteer
Our intake volunteer greets our participants, provides registration forms and checks participants in by scanning membership cards using a tablet-based database. Full training will be provided.
Volunteer qualifications:
- Over 18 years of age
- Comfortable working with a diverse community of participants in-person
- Patient, empathetic, with good customer service skills
Availability: Thursdays 2:45-6:15
Food Bank volunteers
We are looking for extra weekly volunteers in our food bank. Tasks will include preparing food bags and boxes for delivery.
Availability: Weekly shifts: Tuesdays 9-12 available from 12/10, Wednesdays 11-1, Thursday 8:30-11 & 11-1 available from 12/12, Friday 10-12 available from 12/13. 1st and 3rd Wednesdays 8:30-12
Home delivery volunteer
We would like to add another route to our home food delivery program. This volunteer would be delivering food to one location in North Seattle using their own transport. Volunteer would need to have an SUV or larger.
Availability: Weekly on Thursdays, picking up bags from the food bank at around 11 am
On-call Food Bank volunteer roles
If you need more flexibility in your schedule, we have a variety of on-call volunteer positions available. These volunteers provide cover if our regular volunteers are unavailable. On-call volunteer roles include:
- Food rescue (driver and helper roles)
- Set-up, distribution, and participant intake
- Mobile Food Pantry helper
- Home delivery driver
Availability: Volunteer shifts are Tuesday-Friday, ranging from 8-3 pm or 8-6pm on Thursdays. After initial onboarding, we use online sign-up sheets for easy self-assignment. To find the right on-call role for you, contact our Volunteer Coordinator, Kat Johnson.
Spanish playgroup helper
Our Spanish playgroup is so successful and busy, our staff need a little extra help! We are looking for a Spanish speaking volunteer to help prep for playgroup, lend a hand during playgroup and then there’s the clean-up after. This volunteer role is at our Family Resource Center in the Roosevelt neighborhood.
Volunteer qualifications:
- Spanish speaking
- Over 18 years of age
- Comfortable working with a diverse community of families and caregivers in-person and must love kids
- Ability to be relational, empathetic and patient
- Willing to learn about FamilyWorks to help answer questions and happy to refer participants to staff for further resources
Availability: Tuesdays 9:30-12, weekly commitment
Supermarket Saturday Food Drives will be back April 2025!
Our food drives are a very important way to stock our Food Bank. The event involves interacting with shoppers and informing them of the non-perishable foods the Food Bank needs. Donations are then gratefully collected.
When: The fourth Saturday of the month from 10 am to 1 pm, in one-hour shifts.
Where: Wallingford QFC, 1801 N 45th St.
Reading Buddies
Encourage and support a love of books by reading with elementary students. Reading Buddies runs while school is in session at Cedar Crossing in the Roosevelt neighborhood.
Volunteers must be over 18 years old.
