Expand and renovate the Wallingford Food Bank(Opening 2025)
In 2019, our food security program served 2,200 households. In 2023, we served more than 4,500 households!
We currently don’t have enough warehouse space to meet the growing demand, so we will renovate our Wallingford location and absorb the space where the Family Resource Center had previously been housed.
Our planned food bank renovations are designed to increase our capacity, better meet our community’s needs, and improve the experience of our participants.
Families will be greeted by an expanded, u-shaped distribution area, where they can shop through different Food Bank stations packed with farm-fresh and culturally appropriate foods.
An expanded wash station and much larger refrigeration equipment will help us increase the variety and availability of produce from local farm partners.
A separate room will allow for donation sorting and packing, creating more space in our distribution area for participants to shop in comfort.
The renovation will also include a private office space for FamilyWorks’ Community Connectors to meet one-on-one with families and help enroll them in public benefits and access community resources such as housing assistance, childcare, and income supports.
